On March 14th, 2007 the town hosted a celebration at the Visitors' Pavilion. All those who volunteered to work on the Winter Carnival were aware of the significance of the win. Bay Roberts with a population of about 5500 had been competing with towns with populations of up to 50,000. The announcement, which was made at the awards ceremony held in Ottawa on February 17th, 2007, marks the second time in three years that Bay Roberts was named national winner in its category. The town claimed the title in 2005 and last year was awarded five stars for the large nativity scene displayed by the local congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
